Muo is a coastal town with a fisherman's name and surname! Silver bonito fish are kept here. Let's see where, how and from where... Moo? Tourists often do not know what the name of the place where they spend their summer should mean? Does Muo change to: Muo, Mua, Muu, or what? And local radio stations sometimes hear that there are more guests at Muu this year compared to the same period last year...? It's been a year and when it's not like that, still, Moo is Moo!

It got its name from the many mules (boat rests) built along the coastal road. When we know this, we have the sympathy of all the locals. Mostly the older ones, the landlords!

During a short coastal walk, it is easy to enumerate how many stone mules exist on Mulo (Montenegro). The people of Mula were all fishermen in the past, and they built a mula in front of their houses to protect the foster boats from the waves. There are mules in literally every place in Boka Kotorska, but there are more of them on Mulo, only a few kilometers away - as many as 50. It's a kind of Mediterranean record, let's not be fooled. Mullahs are in love with their mullahs! Even today, the elders are sitting on benches along a row of stone houses that touch each other, and which are all right next to the coast. The locals are always ready to accept a conversation about the mullahs. During the bonanza, when there is not even a breath of wind, and when the one-story houses with mullions are sunk in the sea mirror, then they cry out to be photographed. If we sit down with the fishermen on the pižula, a unique coastal architectural creation (in the summer a warm stone bench built next to the house), the fishermen open their souls. And they discover the secret of the longevity of all those Mulja mullahs...

Namely, in the past of Boka Kotorska (Montenegro), large stone blocks were taken out of the sea with a special pincer device based on a lever, placed on top of a barge. And stacked along the coast, in such a way as to be a dam against the waves. In the history of this typical Mediterranean construction, cement was never used as a binding agent! Locals inserted bundles of mussel shells (mussels, mussels) into the gaps between the stacked large boulders. With a specific binding byssus bundle, originally those threads with which the shell clings to the stone, the shells are stronger than concrete could bind them - they joined stone to stone. They still do that today! In the earthquake of 1979, mules also perished, of course, but they would have disappeared completely if they hadn't been helped by mussel colonies from the sea, and their exceptionally strong bisous bundles. *

Be that as it may, Muo is a small town with a privileged view of Kotor. This privileged sight (translated from the local idiom - view) comes to the fore especially during the August traditional equatorial festival Bokeška night, when many masked boats either depart from the shores of Mula, or pass by. Of course, the traditional fireworks are better seen from the opposite shores of the Mulo than from Kotor itself, especially since they are all reflected in the water, in all the colors of the spectrum! During the summer day, there are many water polo players who cover the insignificant distance of half a nautical mile between Kotor and Mul for training. Of course: all of them must know about the swimmer: that during the day many ships, sailboats and yachts directly cut their swimming route. Therefore, if you are swimming across this gulf appendix - be careful!!! *

Muo has the physiognomy of an urban type of low-lying settlement. And all those one-story stone fishermen's houses are located at the foot of the picturesque peninsular hill Vrmac, which prevents the day in Kotor from lasting longer by a few hours. The oldest monument is embodied in the older part of the church of Kuzma and Damian from the 18th century. In 1864, the church of Blessed Grace was built in the place, where the saint's relics or powers are kept. Apart from them, there is also a kind of monument to fishing - a silver thank-you note in the form of bonito fish, presented to the church immediately after the people of Muljani (in the 19th century) netted an unprecedented catch of bonito, a fish that is rightly considered to be quite similar to tuna in terms of meat quality.

From Mulo, you can walk to Kotor in about 15 minutes through the suburb of Peluzica. To neighboring Prčanje, the same. All the while, a walk along the coast resembles a tour of a unique exhibition of stone mules, because each Mulja mule is different. And between each one there is at least a small Mediterranean plant oasis. A late-night walk reveals the nocturnal face of the fishing village: many elderly Muljani cast baits from the shore for grotto fish (fish from a rock shelter). And the fishermen are waiting, already proverbially tormented by seasonal noise and insomnia. They take out the hooks in the morning, when all the tourists are asleep, after a stormy night spent in Kotor. Then those caught with the leaf are brown and slimy gobblers. They are ugly at first glance, but they are coastal fish of the first category! Those delicacies are then prepared by their wives for their very own Muljani-fishermen. Not a single restaurant offers frigane guljoke, nor brodet of them, nor any dish. A guest can only get to this indisputable morsel if he is in the special favor of Muljan. If with a view of Kotor, summers on Mula. Of course, even if he is in the special grace of Muljanka!
