At the entrance to Boka Kotorska, near the Savina Monastery, the sunlit vineyards still produce grapes today, just like once upon a time in the 18th century. Carefully selected fruits on the estate in the Obradović family winery, the wine is aged in French oak barrels.
The cadastral map from way back in 1758 shows the parcels around the Savina Monastery in Meljina, marked as terra vignata, i.e. local wine heritage.
The story of the Savina winery is really the story of the property, the monastery and the Obradović family.
The house, farm and winery are located on the slopes of Savina, above the Savina monastery in Meljine near Herceg Novi. The winery is surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation and is located in an idyllic coastal and wooded area. The Savina Monastery most likely dates from 1030, although the oldest record in which the monastery is mentioned is from 1648.
As for our business in wine production, it started 17 years ago as a result of a great and sincere love for wine. After years of visiting the best wineries in France, Italy and the region, they decided to plant vines on the estate. Today, the estate has two hectares of international wine varieties (Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Chardonnay) and one domestic white variety, Žižak, similar to Dubrovnik's Malvasia. The vineyards are located on the most beautiful part of the property with a spectacular view of the coast.
Savina wines appeared on the market in 2014. Until that time, they produced wine in smaller quantities, because they enjoyed it. Even today, they are not burdened with excessive expectations: their goal is to remain small producers and produce wine for Boka Kotorska, the coast and a small amount for their friends, no more than 20,000 bottles in total.
Savina wines are characterized by a mild and fresh summer style. This is true for Chardonnay and Rose, but also for their red wines. The plan is to make a serious dessert wine from the local Žižak variety.
