The rapid Romanization of Rizinium began after the subjugation of the Illyrians under King Gentius in 167 BC. Rizinium became a typical Roman city, surrounded by walls, with the center of the city - the forum in the fields of Carinja. Ancient tombs - necropolises - were located outside the walls, and on the southern side of the city there was a residential area with villas of wealthy Risan landowners and merchants. Photo: TOKO Roman mosaics decorate the floors of four of the five rooms in the eastern part of the villa, as well as two rooms in the western part. The technique used was that of large cubes of local gray and black stone, with labris motifs - a double-edged battle ax weapon originating from Crete.
