In order to appreciate the artistic culture of Montenegro, we cannot refer only to a few famous monuments, but we should consider all the artistic works of this region.
Montenegro is a small country, but the place has "old bones" and is one of the oldest areas known to early civilizations. Between many wars, Montenegro was hit by natural disasters. As in neighboring Greece, earthquakes periodically destroyed many objects of historical importance.
Most of the land in Montenegro is made up of karst formations, but it is also rich in white marble, especially near the site of ancient Dokleja.
Mirko Komnenić donated his home as an endowment to the city of Herceg Novi. In his will, he wanted this building to be used as a city museum. This museum preserves historical, archaeological, ethnological and icon collections.
